SANTA ANA, Calif. (April 22) – Former Olympic ice dancer Pasha Grishuk was drugged with GHB, a common date rape drug, during a business meeting at a ritzy Orange County hotel, a sheriff’s spokesman said Tuesday.

Grishuk, who won Olympic gold medals for Russia in ice dancing in 1994 and 1998, was attending a business meeting at the St. Regis Monarch Beach on April 12, when she began to feel ill and numb, sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said.

Amormino says toxicology tests that came back Tuesday were positive for GHB, but it wasn’t immediately clear how the pills got in Grishuk’s drinks or who put them there.

“How somebody was able to do that, I honestly don’t know, but it appears that somebody, for whatever reason, attempted to drug her,” he said.

This happens more often than is reported in the news. Many women who go to clubs, house parties or go on vacation have been drugged as well as raped and they are too embarrassed to report it to the authorities. Some women I’m sure have even died for simply meeting the wrong person or persons. Natalie Holloway comes to mind. Whatever the truth is in her case the young gal lost her life and that’s tragic. When she went to Aruba I’m sure she never conceived of the evil that was about to kill her or leave her to die.

Somehow the victim blames herself for trusting someone she barely knew or putting her self in a situation where she should have known better. Maybe alcohol was involved and since that can cloud anyone’s judgment the women can be unclear of the events leading up to the crime. Last I heard drugging someone with the intent or follow through of raping them is a crime punishable by law. Look at that Luster creep they apprehended in Mexico. He made a career out of drugging and raping girls and the loon even taped his crimes.

I remember how pissed I was that poor Dog the Bounty hunter, his brother and son were arrested because of how Luster’s capture went down. Give Dog and his family metals for there is one last rapist out in the streets.

Ladies, here are a few tips my gal pals and I adhere to when meeting strangers at a bar, on vacation or from the internet.

Always meet in a public places and order your own drinks. Watch the bartender make them yourselves or bring your own booze if allowed. Have a friend or two have dinner at the same place you are meeting Mr. Wonderful so they can watch his actions when you hit the ladies room. If he has sisters he won’t be offended you are protecting yourself until his actions and background have been proven to be genuine.
Don’t go off with strangers under any circumstances. No matter how sexy he looks or inviting the water looks.

If he is the real deal he will wait a bit before getting into your pants if that is what you both want.

Let’s bring back old fashioned dating. That would be cool instead of the anonymous horizontal mambo.

Get information on your date. My space doesn’t count. Think of yourself as a private investigator. His name, sexy photo and occupation isn’t enough these days. He could be lying. Nor are his buddies’ recommendations worth much unless he is a family friend or relative of a friend. Men can stretch the truth where sex is involved. There are some good and bad in all sexes.

Do you want to treat all potential men as criminals? Heck, no but how do you know someone is safe if they are a stranger? He should go the extra mile to make you feel safe and comfortable. Don’t you think ladies? Being cautious is not being paranoid or ridiculous.
Does he have a traceable work number? Will he give out the name of the company he works for or refuses to divulge any personal information. A cell phone could be one of those untraceable throw away phones. Does he have a landline at home ? If he is reluctant to give it to you then you are reluctant to be alone with him. Is he married? Engaged? A serial killer or just not willing to commit or submit to what he considers an invasion of his privacy? Why is dating so complicated these days?
Remember this gals, it is difficult to drug someone when she is surrounded by her friends or family.
Will dating in numbers or taking precautions take the spontaneity out of dating or meeting new guys? Possibly, but then again it is better to be alive then in a pine box.

Dating these days is deadly in more ways than one. Just keep yourselves save no matter how that works for you

Amber and Brandon Hebert, a married couple in Oregon went in search of a barn rental only to case out the place and then later allegedly robbed Robert Salisbury when he had left his home. The couple were said to have taken several saddles from the barn.

Then the two dunderheads thought to run a false ad on craigslist giving out Salisbury’s address offering everything he owned up for grabs in order to cover up their alleged crime.

Many devotees of craigslist took the ad seriously and walked away with whatever their heart’s desired of Salisbury’s personal possessions.

When the media reported the story people were shocked. The authorities made it known they would prosecute anyone who neglected to return the stolen items to them.

What the *$&#?

I have posted many times to sell items on craigslist in my local area and this pisses me off to no end. People like the Heberts ruin a good thing for us folks that are honest and enjoy selling and buying items off this website.

Sure you take a risk when you invite strangers to your home but generally you have someone else there with you when you show an item you have for sale or you meet at a very public place like Starbucks if you are alone.

My tips for a safe sale:

If you live in an apartment leave your door open so your neighbors can hear and see what’s going on.

Talk loudly. Who cares if your neighbor knows your selling your Beatles CDS? If it’s a toss up between your pride and your life Ringo won’t care he has enough cash.

Have a friend or neighbor hang out until the stranger buys or leaves your residence. Don’t encourage chit chat beyond the sale in case the person is a potential stalker. He doesn’t have to look like Jeffrey Dahmer to be dangerous. Remember Robert Chambers and Ted Bundy. If you get a good vibe be yourself.  Trust your own instincts. Okay so I am a native New Yorker. I am suspicious by nature.

If the person darts his eyes around your place instead of on the single item you are selling get them out into the hall as fast as possible and conclude your business ASAP.

Don’t leave any valuables or letters with important info lying around on tables and counters like bank statements etc. that someone can jot down numbers or remember them if they intend to commit some type of fraud.

Tell everyone how secure the place you live in is and that there are hidden surveillance cameras all around the building especially the elevators and stairwells.

Don’t leave the person alone to answer a phone or retrieve something in another room. If they are dishonest it can take seconds for them to rip you off before you knew what hit you. Never leave your handbag nearby and walk in another room. There’s trust and there’s sheer stupidity.

Tell anyone who threatens you if you are female your husband or boyfriend who is a martial arts black belt is in the back room on his computer. Even if it is your pet poodle Fi Fi is scratching against the door wanting to piddle.

Keep your cell phone handy in case of an emergency with 911 coded in so you need to press one number to access help if needed.

Those are a few of my tips. Although I will say in the last several years of my dealing with craigslist folks, most have been friendly happy go lucky people who just wanted a good bargain.
