He had a very recognizable voice and was loved by the public. His views on gun control and its freedoms caused some controversy but it never took away from his achievements in the entertainment business.

I can remember as a child the first time my family and I saw THE TEN COMMANDMENTS in the theater. My mom knew it would be a long movie so she dressed us in our pajamas. The movie was a re-released theatrical event.

I was so caught up in the acting, costumes and scenery my little mind could not decipher that it was just a movie. My mom brought snacks and I think there was even a brief intermission. The theater was filled to capacity with people of all ages. You could feel the excitement and anticipation of the movie goers awaiting the conclusion of the film.

It was a wonderful evening and near midnight when we were let out of the theater.

I’ll never forget how special the experience was that night.

Years later I remember watching several of Mr. Heston’s films over the course of a very long three day weekend. There are few actors who had his presence on the big screen. He was a rare talent and will be missed.

It was sad he had to suffer from Alzheimer’s the few remaining years of his life but like everything else when he gave his news conference notifying the public of his diagnosis of the disease he handled it with grace and dignity.
